Will a Low Fat, High Protein Diet Help Me Prevent Bruising?

High Again:

Last time we talked about what effects loading our diet with fruits and vegetables might bring in our efforts to reduce bruising.  Today we’ll talk about a different form of diet that seems to be very popular in today’s society.  Low fat, high protein diets like Adkins and South Beach have been around for some time, but we’ll take a look at whether or not this type of diet affects our easy bruising.  Although I’ve yet to find a “bruise free” diet (wouldn’t that be nice?), we’ll try to determine the strengths of each type of diet for our purposes of trying to prevent bruising.

We are all consistently looking for ways to get beyond the bruising that appears after just a slight bump, or even a bump we don’t even realize took place, and diet is one area that we can absolutely control ourselves.  To begin with, we can take comfort in the fact that the high protein part of this type of diet pretty much eliminates the possibility that our easy bruising is caused by an iron deficiency.  Because of the amount of iron available for absorption from proteins, this also pretty much eliminates anemia as being the cause of our easy bruising, since iron is the primary cure for anemia.  A dinner that will give us a great influx of iron would be liver combined with rice and onions (if you are able to get past the smell and taste).

Another thing that we can expect from a high protein, low fat diet is a boost in our energy levels, which may lead to our increasing our physical activity with its attendant benefits to our cardiovascular and circulatory systems.  If our diet helps us  increase our energy levels, the better we’re going to feel and the more healthy we’re going to be.

One possible negative to the low fat side of this form of diet is the possible loss of the cushioning effect that a layer of fat beneath our skin can provide (hush my mouth), which can tend to help reduce bruising.  As with all diets, we need to avoid anything that tends toward the extreme.  Believe it or not, if we were to abruptly change from a diet of junk food to a low fat, high protein diet, that change might be considered extreme.  As always, seek medical advice for any lifestyle changes that might be considered radical.

As we know, a proper, balanced diet can really contribute in a meaningful way to our quest to prevent bruising.  As we also have learned, maintaining that perfect diet is not always an easy thing to do.  Putting ourselves on the unique Bruises Be Banned program is a way that we can help fill in the gaps that may exist in our diet, and help us get over the nightmares that come from easy bruising.
